Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has insisted he is comfortable playing in a deeper role for club and country, having again impressed in the role for Argentina.
El Grafico cover comments from the Argentine midfielder today following his side’s 1-0 win over Paraguay last night.
Mac Allister started that game in a deeper role alongside midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Rodrigo De Paul in a 4-3-3 set up.
Like with Liverpool he was asked to play a more reserved role and leave attacking duties to his fellow midfielders, something of a change for a player who made his name as more of an attacking midfielder during his time with Brighton.
El Grafico, though, say he ‘stands out’ in his new position, having now become a player who ‘seems like he was a solider of a thousand battles’.
The defensive role is one he’s still adjusting to, particularly at Anfield, where he’s been tasked with filling the void left behind by Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
It’s something he hasn’t looked completely at ease with so far, a tally of three yellow cards and one red card in the Premier League hinting he is yet to get fully adapted.
That’s not an opinion the Liverpool man shares, though, and insisted he is more than comfortable with a deeper, defensive role.
“I played more or less like I do at the club, it’s a new position but I feel very comfortable,” he said.
“Scaloni asks me to manage the balance of the team, to take care of the relays and to take care of myself when I leave.”
