As Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz today held a press conference at the national team camp, he’s seen as one of the solutions for Brazil’s midfield.
Many questions from his compatriot journalists were about what he can add to the squad, since he’s been managing to prove himself in the Premier League for a while now.
In quotes from UOL, Douglas Luiz explained that a lot of his success at Aston Villa has to do with Unai Emery’s arrival.
The midfielder claimed that if he has good attacking stats this season, that has everything to do with the ‘freedom’ that the manager has been giving him in his scheme.
“I feel very comfortable after Emery’s arrival. With the previous managers I was a 6, a 5, but with him I have more freedom, exactly the way I like to play. I’ve totalled 10 goals and 10 assists this season. The formation makes me more comfortable. I spoke to Dorival about the way he’d like me to play. The freedom is very good for adding goals and assists,” said Douglas Luiz.
The Aston Villa midfielder also spoke about facing some of his teammates at Wembley, and claimed that despite being a friendly, all of them want to win the match.
“Playing here, my opinion of the Premier League is that it’s a very strong league, not just any player can play at Wembley. I’ve played there once in five years. They’ll want to win. We’re trying to quickly understand Dorival’s work and put it into practice on the pitch.
“It’s going to be a great game, different times for the teams. Ours is rebuilding, England is more formed, and we’ll give it our all to win this match.”
Brazil have a new manager in charge, and Douglas Luiz is one of the players trying to guarantee a place in the starting team.
Playing against Premier League opponents is surely something he could feel more comfortable to convince coach Dorival Junior.
