After gaining some recognition during the 2016 Euros, Bartosz Kapustka was signed by Leicester City.
There was a lot of hype surrounding the winger, but the now 21-year-old never managed to break through at King Power Stadium, and eventually a loan to SC Freiburg was sorted out last season.
Struggling there as well, Kapustka returned, only to be sent back out temporarily, this time to Leicester’s affiliate OH Leuven in Belgium’s second-tier.
Managed by Nigel Pearson, the youngster has regained some form, and while their results aren’t the best, he appears to be happy there for the time being.
Speaking to Sport Express back in his home country, Kapustka did, however, reveal there were doubts at first regarding this move.
He said: “I wasn’t convinced, but Leicester really wanted it because Leuven is their satellite club, and they can track me and influence what happens to me. They’ve invested in the infrastructure, which is why we have great facilities, and the most important thing is I needed regular game time, because I know what the last two years looked like”.
Kapustka also claimed Leicester stood in his way regarding a return back to Poland because ‘it did not suit them’, and he felt immediately there was no point arguing even if he did give it some serious thought.
Ultimately, the move to Leuven was sorted out, but the drop in divisions has reignited a fire in Kapustka, who knows what he wants now.
He said: “I know that, ultimately, the second division is not a place for me. I have far greater ambitions, but I have to return step by step. The most important thing for me was to play and that’s what I’ve done. My form? When I compare my first match with the latest ones, the difference is visible.”
So far this season, Kapustka has scored three goals in 11 league appearances for Leuven.
