You might have heard that Chelsea need a striker, and the man at the top of the list for a very long time has been Victor Osimhen.

There are some, like John Obi Mikel, who believe the player will be going to Stamford Bridge in the summer when the Blues trigger his release clause, but the recent news from England that Nico Williams is now a target suggested otherwise.

That has reached Italy, and there are some who are skeptical about this latest information, such as Sky Italia journalist Luca Marchetti, speaking to Radio Marte, relayed by Area Napoli.

He pointed out what was being said in England about Chelsea’s change of plans and suggested that would then put Paris Saint-Germain in pole position for the Nigeria international.

He then added: “I don’t know if he has really been abandoned by Chelsea. I have my doubts, just as I don’t think it will be Paris Saint-Germain.”

Moving on, Marchetti explained that it would be better for Napoli if there were ‘more suitors’ than just those two, even if there is a clause of €130m in his contract.

Aurelio De Laurentiis will probably be aware that it will be very difficult for any club to put all that money up front for the player, which is the only way the clause can be triggered, meaning that an auction potentially seeing the overall figure surpass that amount with bonuses would be even better for him.

In short, it seems that some in Italy believe all this talk about Williams might just be a tactic to calm the Osimhen stories a bit and allow Chelsea to work on it a bit more quietly.
