With a good couple of recent performances at the national team, West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paquetá now held a press conference at their training camp.
The 25-year-old mostly spoke of the changes that have been taking place at the Seleção, as well as what he can bring to them.
It turns out that Paquetá was also quizzed about Saudi Arabia (via Globo Esporte). There was a question asking if players who are in Europe already see the Saudi league as an interesting place. And the West Ham player made it clear he doesn’t plan to go there anytime soon.
“If we’re going to talk about an important championship, we will end up lying a little,” said Lucas Paquetá.
“There are other issues that involve a player going to Arabia. I don’t think about that now, I think about winning titles and the goals I’m after. For players who have already won everything, like Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, they will seek tranquillity and make the league grow.”
Paquetá also spoke about his motivation at the national team, claiming that with the end of the season with West Ham, he could now completely focus on the international games.
“The Brazilian national team is always the highest level of demand. Of course, we’ve had big disputes, titles, fighting to stay in the Premier League… but when it comes to the national team it’s something different, unique, we have to be 100% focused to represent the Brazilian team.”
The midfielder made two assists in Brazil’s past couple of games, and currently fights to keep a place in the starting team. Following the win over Guinea at the weekend, they now play Senegal tonight.
Those are both friendlies, with an interim manager, amid reports that Carlo Ancelotti will arrive to take charge next year.
