As Manchester City star Bernardo Silva held a press conference at Portugal’s training camp, he couldn’t avoid being asked about his future.
Even though the midfielder’s contract with Pep Guardiola’s side runs until 2025, he’s been heavily linked with an exit from the club.
Speaking to Portuguese journalists (via Noticias Ao Minuto), Bernardo Silva claimed he’s still to take a decision on his future, making it clear he doesn’t know if he’s staying at Manchester City.
“I don’t run away from questions. The truth is that this is not the space to talk about it, but I still don’t know my future. I’m being honest. I don’t know, we’ll see in the near future. And even if I did, it wouldn’t be the space to talk about it. The reality is that I don’t know.”
The player also claimed that this current scenario doesn’t cause any tension for him, saying he now has his mindset on the national team’s upcoming fixtures.
“I can only speak for myself. It doesn’t affect me, because I’ve been in this situation for almost three years now [laughs]. I’m already quite used to it, so I’m focused and it’s an immense pride to represent our country. It’s an enormous happiness. We have two important games to take an important step towards qualifying for the Euro. To, once again, give joy to the Portuguese. I am focused on the national team.”
Bernardo Silva was even asked if he could be making a comeback to Benfica this summer, and that was the only possibility he ended up ruling out.
“It’s unrealistic and it’s not going to happen.”
The midfielder has been heavily linked to Barcelona in the past, and it’s now Paris Saint Germain who seem to be chasing him this summer.
Now focused on the national team, Bernardo Silva will be taking part in the games against Bosnia and Iceland in the Euro qualifiers.
