Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has detailed how he ended up at Everton in 2019 thanks to a disagreement at Napoli.
The Italian coach has been speaking ahead of a return to Napoli with the Spanish giants, a side he managed between 2018 and 2019.
He eventually left after 73 games in charge amid something of a furore, with a poor start to the season coupled with troubles in the squad and a player revolt.
It didn’t take long for him to find a new club, though, with Everton swooping to secure his signature three days before Christmas and just twelve days after he had left Napoli.
They and Napoli are now very much in his past, but he’s detailed how he ended up making the switch between the pair in comments today.
“De Laurentiis no longer had faith in me,” he said.
“We had an argument about retiring (a training camp), I didn’t want it, they did. In the end they weren’t happy with me anymore. In the end they weren’t happy, and we separated, but without conflict. I don’t like arguing. Three days later I was at Everton.
“He is a very ironic, very nice character, I had a very good time with him, we separated without conflicts.
“He no longer had faith, it’s true that things weren’t going so well in the league, but in the Champions League, we were doing well. But the team’s objective was not the Champions League, but the championship.”
