Having struggled for regular minutes at Tottenham Hotspur in the first half of this season, Bryan Gil joined Sevilla on a loan deal in the winter market.
Spurs took the forward from the La Liga side in 2021 and he’s currently enjoying a second spell with them. He’s preparing for the Europa League semi-final clash against Juventus later today.
Ahead of the clash, Marca interviewed the Tottenham owned player and directly asked him if there would be a third spell at Sevilla for him.
“Well, I don’t know, the truth is that I am very, very happy here. I have been very happy to belong to this club, but I have a contract with another club [Tottenham] and I think it would be disrespectful to talk about staying here,” he said.
The 22-year-old’s deal lasts until the end of this season and the Andalusian club don’t have an option or obligation to make his stay permanent.
Gil spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia. He managed less than 1100 minutes of action from 31 games since he joined Spurs two years ago.
Sevilla also endured a poor run earlier this season, resulting in them sacking two managers. Jorge Sampaoli, who signed Gil in January, was shown the exit door in March and replaced by José Luis Mendilibar.
On the Argentine’s exit, Gil explained: “When you change a lot of coaches, part of the blame is on the players, who are the ones on the pitch. When Mendi arrives, the dynamic changes a little and the team starts to go up.
“That’s what we have to look at. It’s all about learning. We can’t relax. We have some very nice things ahead of us and I hope they’re good.”
Both Sevilla and the Tottenham man have recovered well in recent weeks.
When asked if the recent upturn in form ‘tastes different’ due to ‘all the ‘suffering’, he said: “When you have bad times, like everything in life, when you are well you are happy, you are cheerful, you enjoy it twice as much. All to compensate for the moments suffered. The team deserves it.”
