As Brazil are today calling up the squad for the upcoming friendlies, that’s a fresh opportunity for many players who dream of playing for the national team.
Manager Tite has been gone since the World Cup last year, and as the board look for his replacement, caretaker coach Ramon Menezes is set to be in charge for now.
To speak about this new chance, outlet Globo Esporte had a word with Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz, who was left out of the last World Cup.
The midfielder had even been called up for the Copa America and the World Cup Qualifiers, but was left out of the tournament in Qatar.
Now the Aston Villa player admits the frustration about the situation, despite claiming he understands Tite’s reasons to leave him out.
“It’s a little complicated to talk about it. I didn’t understand the situation, but Tite is a very good guy. He was always very clear about what he wanted, but I didn’t understand it.”
“I took it in the best way and I cheered a lot for Brazil the same way. Sad for not being together, but the support was the same.”
Now with Ramon Menezes in charge, Douglas Luiz hopes he can get in this new ‘cycle’ and be in the squad for the upcoming competitions.
“We get butterflies in the stomach. I’ve been playing good matches, the moment is good and I’ve already had a recent spell. This time, the goal is to keep myself in the entire cycle in this dispute”.
Playing for Aston Villa this season, Douglas Luiz has 26 appearances, with three goals and five assists so far, but he knows it may take more than that to find a place in Brazil’s squad.
