Throughout a chunk of August, Fermín López was linked with a move to Chelsea. The claims were coming from the Catalan media mainly so appeared to be pushed by Barcelona.
At one point it was almost a daily thing and when reading between the lines it appeared Barcelona were open to a sale as long as Chelsea paid a good fee. At the time the Blaugrana were struggling to register players for the new season and Fermín was a potential sacrifice.
Transfer fees as high as €60-90m were talked about and it was repeatedly stated Fermín himself was tempted. Chelsea would offer a bigger salary and guarantee him more prominence than Barcelona.
Ultimately the move never happened and Fermín is quite happy about that. He insists things never got as far as presented because he didn’t want to leave.
In an interview with Catalonia RAC1 the Barcelona player is quoted as saying: “I didn’t think about it. I never had the intention of leaving and I think the club didn’t want to sell me.
“I’ve been a Barça fan all my life. Since I was a child. Everything comes from an uncle of my mother’s, Miri, who has always been a Barça fan.”
Should Barcelona need money in a future transfer window then Chelsea may be pushed again.
