At the weekend, reports came from Uruguay claiming that Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani had travelled to Madrid to take care of his injury.

The 34-year-old, who missed the Manchester derby and then didn’t join the national team for the World Cup qualifiers, is recovering from a tendon injury which now doesn’t seem very simple.

It turns out Cavani showed up in Uruguay, where he took part in an event for a new book written by his wife, and had a word with the local media about his current situation.

“The issue was like this: before starting the season, I had discomfort in the tendon, it made me spend a couple of weeks out until I began to gain minutes in my team,” said Cavani (via El Observador).

“I had to go back to the national team, always with a bit of pain but with the hope that it would disappear. It was improving, but after Tottenham it started coming back. They are difficult injuries and I decided to do the treatment so that it does not continue to get worse and to recover as soon as possible to be well for my team and the national team.”

El Observador confirms that Cavani had been seeking treatment in Madrid, explaining he was back in Manchester to watch the derby, and is now having some time off in his home country.

“The treatment requires being in a calm way three or four days after the session, to start the activities and reactivate that treatment in a few days,” said the striker.

Cavani, whose contract with Manchester United runs until the end of the season, has recently been linked with a move to Boca Juniors and even to a few Brazilian clubs. He has only one goal in eight games for the Red Devils this season.
