New Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has named Manchester United’s Victor Lindelöf in his first squad for the international break later this month.
The Blue and Yellow have two friendlies against Portugal and Albania and it’s not clear if the 29-year-old will still be leading the national team.
The Manchester United player has captained Sweden over the last few years and Jon Dahl Tomasson has revealed he’s already made a decision on his captain.
Speaking to the reporters earlier today, relayed by Fotbollskanalen, the new manager has refused to confirm it publicly, at this stage.
“I have decided. But the unfortunate answer is that I will not tell you yet. The players should know first. It’s the right way to do things,” he said, when asked about the Sweden captain.
At the start of February, Jon Dahl Tomasson left Blackburn Rovers and was appointed as Sweden manager later that month.
The 47-year-old Dane has revealed that he made a trip to England to hold talks with the centre-back but has again refused to provide more details.
“I’m a bit sad that I can’t give you the answer. But I met Lindelöf in England and we had a very good conversation. We talked about many things,” Jon Dahl Tomasson explained.
The former Benfica man has been restricted to 13 league starts for Manchester United this season. His contract lasts until 2025 and recent claims in the UK have stated the Red Devils could sell Lindelöf after this season.
