Playing far more for Udinese than he ever did with Watford, Ignacio Pussetto called it time on football in Europe after five years, and decided it was time to return to Argentina.
He was allowed to leave the Hornets on a free this summer to go back to his former club, Huracán, where he was presented recently.
The forward, in quotes to TyC Sports, relayed by El Intra, explained his decision to leave Watford after playing only nine games for them, and a return to football after a serious knee injury.
He underwent surgery after damaging his knee while on loan at Sampdoria last season, and there were even fears he could be forced to retire.
However, determination from the players end ensured that didn’t happen, and he scored his first goal back in Argentina after his Watford exit on Sunday in a 5-3 win over Racing Club.
He said: “I told my wife that I didn’t want to continue playing or suffer. I couldn’t stand the pain anymore. Thank God I’m playing today. Thanks to the doctors and everyone who was there to help me.”
As for his move from Watford to Huracán, he said: “From the outside, I looked at it and said that I was not wrong in coming back because they make me very happy. We are all pulling forward to get out of this situation.”
As mentioned above, Pussetto only featured nine times for Watford, and spent most of his playing career in Italy with Udinese, for whom he played in 94 games, scoring 15 times.
