Arsenal’s season is obviously far from over, as the Gunners remain strong in the fight for the Premier League title.
However, Viktor Gyokeres, who’s been reported as one of the main targets the North London side have, hast just won the Portuguese league title, and is now ready to sort out his future.
As Portuguese newspaper Record today covers the Lions’ trophy party, they point out Arsenal’s interest in the striker and bring his quotes about his plans.
Gyokeres made it clear he could be leaving Sporting this summer, despite his great relationship with manager Ruben Amorim.
“Thank you very much, Sporting fans. See you soon! I can’t promise that I’ll still be here. I love it here and I wouldn’t mind. But things happen quickly in football and we have to adapt to that. We’ll see what happens. It’s hard to predict what will happen in the future.
“He’s a great coach. I wouldn’t mind continuing with him here. I’ve had a lot of good managers, it’s hard to pick one, but he brought me here and it’s been a great season.”
When speaking about Arsenal’s interest, Record claims the Gunners’ chase is ‘public’, as well as Chelsea’s, who are also expected to fight for him.
At the end of the last week, we saw Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã claiming Gyokeres is set to try and ‘force’ the Gunners and other interested clubs to trigger his release clause at Sporting. That price tag stands at €100m, but seems to be worth it, for a player who has 41 goals and 15 assists in 47 appearances for the club so far.
