Tiémoué Bakayoko has had an interesting year.

Loaned by Chelsea to AC Milan, the midfielder struggled at first and then grew in importance. From claims of the Italian club trying to send him back ahead of the January window, the story changed to talk of a permanent transfer.

Things didn’t work out, and as the club faltered towards the end of the season, the Frenchman had a very public falling out with Gennaro Gattuso. The manager has now left but there doesn’t appear to be any possibility of the deal being revived.

This means Chelsea have the player back, but his future remains uncertain.

He’s sat down for a chat with L’Equipe, and when asked about interest from other clubs, his brother Abdoulaye, also his agent, answered for him: “We receive phone calls every day. It’s due to his good season this year in Milan. But we must think about the best project. And for now, the best project is Chelsea. He knows, we are at home. You just have to start the season as well as you can and see what it’s like. But that does not stop us from listening to the proposals.”

Bakayoko was then asked about Leonardo returning to PSG to help with the direction of the club, and he said: “I’m glad he’s coming to Paris, it’s the club of my heart, it’s my city. I am sure he will do a good job. I wish him the best there.”

The natural next question for the Chelsea player was whether he’d like to play for PSG, and he certainly wasn’t ready to hide his feelings: “Yes, for sure, one day I would like to play in Paris, I cannot lie about it. It’s big for me and my loved ones. We are real Parisians.”

There’s often a reason for interviews being granted, perhaps a nudge to PSG is the reason for this.
