Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga was today interviewed by the Belgian media, where DH had a few questions for him.
The 24-year-old is currently having a loan spell at Luton Town, whom he joined last summer and where he will be staying until the end of the season.
It’s really about Arsenal that DH wanted to know more, though, as he was asked whether he thinks he can succeed at the club in the next season.
“I think it’s too early to say. I haven’t had any contact with Mikel Arteta yet. I’m concentrating on Luton. We’ll talk to Arsenal at the end of the season. But everything will happen gradually. I still consider myself an Arsenal player. I’m appreciated there by the fans and the staff. I think I can have a future at Arsenal, but that will depend on my performances here. I’ve always said that as long as I have a contract with the Gunners, I’d like to make my mark there.”
“I’d sign for Arsenal. I learnt a lot there. Maybe I could have gone out on loan at the end of my first year because I wasn’t playing much, but I’ll never regret my move to Arsenal. It’s a club that’s close to my heart. I hope Arsenal are champions this season. For my friends and the staff.”
Lokonga was signed by Arsenal back in 2021, when the Gunners invested €17.5m on his arrival from Anderlecht.
He even stayed at the club for one and a half seasons, having made 38 appearances for them, but then it was decided he should gain experience somewhere else.
The midfielder first joined Crystal Palace in January 2023, and last summer, he was sent to Luton on a year-long spell.
His contract with the Gunners runs until 2026, meaning there is still plenty of time for him to achieve his goals, unless Arsenal decide otherwise before then.
