Following the news that England would face Poland in the World Cup qualifiers, Kamil Grosicki took to social media to showcase his excitement at the upcoming fixture.
It’s a big deal for him, since he currently plays in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, having made the move to these shores back in 2017 when Hull City paid £8m to recruit him from Rennes.
He then switched over to the Hawthorns last January, where he played a regular part in their push for promotion, which they achieved by finishing second in the Championship.
After that, however, he has been all but forgotten by Slaven Bilic, who seems highly reluctant to use the Poland international in his team, giving him just 55 minutes so far, all in the EFL Cup against Harrogate Town.
This led to a potential transfer to Nottingham Forest, which never materialised, leaving Grosicki somewhat stranded and in need of minutes ahead of next summer’s Euros.
He’s already spoken out about his situation, and did so again following the World Cup qualifying draw, opening up to Super Express.
He said: “I have to perform regularly at the club and be in shape. I’ll do anything to make it happen. I talked to manager Brzęczek and he believes in me, despite the current problems I have at the club. That’s why I don’t want to disappoint him”.
With the 2022 World Cup realistically his final big competition as an international, considering he’s already 32, Grosicki is prepared to take certain steps to ensure he remains available over the next couple of years.
He added: “This is my dream and I will do everything to make it come true. I don’t think it matters how old you are, but what you show on the pitch. I feel very good physically, maybe also because I was avoiding injuries. You can still play for the national team at the age of 34-35.
“The priority for now is winning a place in the West Brom squad and every day I am fighting to improve my situation and I believe my time will come for this club. If it fails, I will make the decision in January to regularly play on the pitch and prepare for the WorldCup qualifying matches and Euro finals”.
