Atlético Madrid’s Saúl Ñíguez has admitted reports of Manchester United interest make him happy.
The midfielder has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the years, but there have hardly been any reports discussing Red Devils’ interest in him in the ongoing window.
Earlier in June, United legend Rio Ferdinand advised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to sign the 25-year-old this summer.
The Spain international has given a lengthy interview to Marca, and was asked how he took rumoured interest from the Premier League club and ‘Ferdinand advocating for his signing’.
“Very well indeed. I am very flattered that a club like Manchester United or other teams ask about me, take me into consideration, for me it is very positive,” Saúl said.
“And that strong people in those clubs speak well of you means I am doing things well at Atletico.”
Marca then asked a follow up question stating that there have been concerns at Atletico because of the reports linking the Spaniard with others.
Responding to that, he said: “I don’t think so, they have never transmitted that to me from the club.”
Saúl signed a long-term contract with Atlético three years ago, and his current deal with Diego Simeone’s side runs down in 2026. He has a €150m release clause in his contract.
