Steven Alzate has told Le Soir that Brighton & Hove Albion have an option to recall him from his loan spell at Standard Liège in January.
The midfielder spent the previous season on loan at the Belgian club and was hoping to find his way into Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, more so after the Seagulls sold Alexis Mac Allister and Moisés Caicedo in the last window.
Instead, Brighton allowed him to return to Standard Liège on another loan spell in the last window, and he has managed a goal and two assists from 11 games this season.
The Colombia international’s deal at The Amex lasts until next summer and he had earlier stated the Premier League side have an option to extend it for another year.
After speaking to the Belgian outlet about his current season at the Jupiler Pro League side, the 25-year-old was asked about his future. When responding to that, the Brighton owned man made it clear that he would prefer to have stability in his career.
“I haven’t started any special discussions if that’s your question, although no one should forget that Brighton still have an option to bring me back during the winter window,” he said.
“I admit to being a little tired by the constant travel between England and Belgium, quite simply because each player aspires to settle down at a given moment, with the aim of devoting themselves totally to their employer.”
“I’m happy at Standard, I’ve had the chance to be well surrounded and to feel appreciated, that’s already an excellent thing. For the rest, we will see what the future holds for me, here or elsewhere.”
The Premier League side signed the South American from Leyton Orient in 2017 and he made 51 appearances for them, managing three goals and two assists in the process.
