Brighton and Hove Albion were forced to pay €6.5m to hire Fabian Hürzeler this summer, a sum that has helped St. Pauli record a ‘historic’ increase in their income this year.
That’s according to Hamburger Abendblatt, who report that the German club will be recording a ‘record turnover’ this year thanks to Hürzeler’s move to Brighton.
The newspaper explains that after concern last year at the club as they announced losses, St. Pauli have this year returned to profitability.
The club will hold their general meeting this evening in which they will announce profit of €149,315.33 and a significant increase in the club’s earnings.
One of their big incomes was the fee they received for Hürzeler from Brighton. The Seagulls refused to match a release clause in his contract, which led to a fee that could be ‘freely negotiated’.
That led to the German club initially receiving €6.5m for their coach, although that sum can increase through bonuses if Hürzeler enjoys various successes with Brighton during his time there.
Either way, St. Pauli are rubbing their hands together and celebrating a small return to profit and a ‘historic high’ for income thanks to Brighton.
