Earlier this month, it was announced officially that Lucas Moura would be leaving Tottenham on a free transfer, giving him the chance to continue his career elsewhere.
The winger hadn’t been a regular starter for quite some time at Spurs, and there was a feeling that it was best for everyone to part ways rather than stick it out for an extra season.
That doesn’t mean the player is overall thrilled at the prospect of leaving Tottenham, as he explained to L’Equipe in an interview on Thursday.
The first question put to the Brazilian winger was whether he was happy or frustrated about leaving Spurs after so many years.
He replied: “It’s a mixture of emotions, I think. I’m leaving with my head held high and with the feeling of a job well done. I’ve built something solid and made my mark on the history of Tottenham, but I’m also leaving the club with a twinge of regret. It hurts to leave this club, my teammates, the city… It will remain a positive experience. I’ve grown and progressed. My only regret is not winning a title. That’s a shame.”
The forward was then asked if he was considering staying in England, perhaps at a rival of Tottenham’s, or if he was going to try something new abroad.
Lucas Moura said he ‘wouldn’t rule out’ a move to a Premier League club, since it remains the best in the world, and would give any offer from there ‘careful consideration’.
Then again, he’s also ‘open to other league’ and want to make the most of the first time he has been free as a player to choose his next destination.
The aim is to make the ‘best possible choice’.
