AaB sporting director James Gow has told the Danish media he’s pleased his club have managed to secure the services of Newcastle United youngster Travis Hernes.

The 19-year-old has joined the Danish side on a six-month loan deal as the Magpies look to get first team experience for the player.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, Gow was asked about signing the Newcastle United midfielder and the reasons they targeted him.

The AaB director believes Hernes’ attributes will be beneficial for the Danish club in the coming months.

“Travis is a young, hungry and talented central midfielder who is best as a six, but who can also fill the number eight position. He is technically skilled and has a good, forward flow in his game. He can pass – also under pressure – as well as having dynamism and good acceleration, and in general Travis covers a large area and works hard throughout the game, and we look forward to him being part of our squad in the next six months,” said the AaB sporting director.

Hernes joined Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee in 2023 after initially being in the Shrewsbury Town academy.

He’s yet to make the breakthrough into the Eddie Howes’ first team plans but has been a regular in their U21 side this season.

Hernes was born in Norway before moving to England in his teens, he’s subsequently represented the Norwegian U17 national team.

AaB finished second in the Danish first division last season, and were promoted to the Superliga, where they currently find themselves ninth out of 12 clubs.
