As Celtic prepare to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this week, Spanish outlet Cadena Ser features a story with a Spaniard who works at Brendan Rodgers’ side.
That’s Alejandro Lorenzo Olivares, who’s a physiotherapist at Celtic, following his jobs at Hull City and Leeds United.
He’d already been at Celtic during their quite successful season in 2022/23, and talked a little about the path that took him to that job.
“I was in the Albacete youth team as a player from the age of 4 to 16 when I had an injury. At that time, I decided to quit to dedicate myself to my studies and my enthusiasm for the rehabilitation of injuries began.”
Olivares recalled his work at English clubs, explaining he managed to get big experience at Hull City and Leeds United.
“While I was preparing myself by finishing my degree and starting my first year of my master’s degree, the following year I signed for Hull City in the Championship as a coach, I was there for three years and then I went to Leeds United, being a trainer of the British team and specialised coach in strength of the U23s, winning the championship and achieving promotion to the Premier League.”
Speaking of Celtic’s clash against Atletico Madrid, he talked about how great it will be for him to watch them play a Spanish club. With two defeats in the first two games in the Champions League, they now have this crucial match against the Colchoneros to keep them alive in the tournament.
“This Wednesday it will be very special to face a Spanish team that is one of the big teams in Europe like Atletico Madrid in our stadium, I’m sure there will be a special atmosphere at Celtic Park and hopefully we can win the game because we have lost the two previous games against Feyenoord and Lazio.”
Celtic have been looking fine on top of the Scottish Premiership, but will certainly need to fight for a better European campaign, as even if they don’t qualify for the Champions League’s knock-out stage, they may at least go to the Europa League.
