Tottenham may have been handed a boost in any potential pursuit of Luis Enrique, with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis claiming the Spanish coach wants to move to the Premier League.
De Laurentiis has been speaking to RAI in Italy, relayed by Tuttomercatoweb, as he searches for a new manager for Napoli.
They appear to part ways with title winning manager Luciano Spalletti, who would like to go on a year-long sabbatical rather than defending the Serie A title next season.
Enrique is an option they’ve been exploring to replace him as he remains out of work and keen to get back into work at club level.
Enrique appeared to have been ruled out but is back in favour after the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot ruled out any potential move this summer.
Competing with Napoli for his signature would be a difficult ask, though, given they not only won the title last year but can also offer Champions League football. Tottenham, in contrast, won’t be playing in any European competition.
It seems, though, they may have been handed a boost as De Laurentiis claims Enrique wants to move to England.
“He wants to go to the Premier League, we compete with leagues that are more attractive than ours,” he said.
“I can tell him that there is no gulf there and you don’t eat as well as we do, but more than this…
“We are evaluating coaches for the 4-3-3, I have evaluated a dozen profiles, I will choose the best to continue the cycle.”
