Earlier this week, we covered the news that Gabri Veiga, currently starring at Celta Vigo, would ask Real Madrid to match any bid from Premier League clubs, which could include Newcastle United, if they were to trigger his release clause.
That’s because the player has the La Liga giants in mind as the next step of his career, seemingly preferring that over a move to England, and this has been reiterated by Alberto Pereiro, working for Onda Cero, relayed by Fichajes.com.
Heavily linked with Newcastle, the young Spaniard has been a revelation for his club this season since he was first given a chance to shine, scoring nine goals and picking up three assists in 29 appearances.
Now, what was reported previously hinted that while he wanted to go to Real Madrid, other teams still had a chance if Florentino Pérez and co. decided against matching the bid, but Pereiro has some stark news shutting that down too.
He said: “Gabri Vega wants to go to Real Madrid. It seems that he has already told his entourage that he doesn’t want to go to the Premier League. His clause is €40m.”
That’s a huge blow for Newcastle if they were thinking about making said move, as it appears the player simply isn’t interested in moving to Tyneside, or even England, at this point in his career, clearly trying to make a real name for himself in his home country.
