Huddersfield Town scouts have been spotted at the Portuguese League Cup match between Paços Ferreira and Rio Ave this Sunday, as reported by A Bola.
The emissaries had the chance to watch quite an open and entertaining game, which was played as the second fixture of the tournament.
Paços Ferreira needed a good result and worked well for it in the first half, creating good chances and opening the score. But were punished with a last minute equaliser from the visitors.
For the home side, forwards Pedrinho and Xavier did well creating several chances, but it was really the Midtjylland loanee Awer Mabil who was their best player, scoring the opener.
The 22-year-old is still settling-in in Portugal, but in case he continues being decisive, Paços Ferreira have a buying option over him at the end of the season.
With the pressure to equalise, Rio Ave had several players highlighted by the local media, including Pelé, Nuno Santos, Xavier and Francisco Geraldes. But the late goal from Barreto has obviously made him the hero of the match.
Short of company
Matches in Portugal are often attended by several scouts, but it was a bit different this time. Besides Huddersfield Town, only Manchester United and French side Nice were on the list of spies who watched the game.
This seems to be only the second time that Huddersfield scouts were seen in Portugal this season, as the only report mentioning them had been when the club watched Benfica’s game against CSKA for the Champions League.
