Earlier on Tuesday, we covered a claim from Sportitalia that Everton are very close to signing Wilfried Gnonto in a deal worth €22m.
It was also stated Aston Villa, who have shown interest in the Leeds United youngster, are in the background.
Despite this claim about the Toffees, the Villans are not ready to give up their ongoing pursuit of the 19-year-old. That’s at least what Calciomercato.it journalist Alessio Lento is reporting.
He took to Twitter to claim that Everton are ‘insisting’ to secure the forward’s services but will face competition from Aston Villa in this window.
According to Lento, Unai Emery’s side have ‘no intention of letting go’ of the Italy U21 international. These are ‘hottest hours’ with regards to the Leeds player’s future.
Gnonto wants to leave Elland Road in the summer window after Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League.
He’s reportedly aiming to continue in the top flight league in England, where Everton and Aston Villa are clearly the two options for him.
