Arsenal are waiting in the wings for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with a ‘hot summer expected’ for the midfielder.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the Gunners are ready to move for the Serbian, who has been a ‘one man show’ in recent weeks after something of a difficult season.
He is now leading Lazio’s push for a European spot at the end of the season, determined to end the season in his best form and ‘without regrets’ ahead of a potential exit this summer.
If he departs in July, he wants to leave so having secured Champions League football next season for his side.
A move away from Lazio is looking increasingly likely as he is set to enter the final year of his deal and a renewal has not been agreed. It does not look likely to be agreed either.
Arsenal are aware of that and would be keen on him, although they have not made any official moves at this moment in time.
That could change in the coming weeks as they look to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad for next season, with Lazio waiting for a concrete move before discussing an exit properly.
President Claudio Lotito is not willing to accept any offers under €40m for his player, with even an offer of €30m not enough to convince him to sell despite Milinkovic-Savic’s contract situation.
A ‘hot summer is expected’ regardless as the player has also made it clear to Lotito that he does not want to leave the club on a free. Thus, if he doesn’t sign a new deal, a transfer will have to be arranged.
That gives Arsenal the chance to get their man and finally bring Milinkovic-Savic to the Premier League after years of him being linked.
