Around a week ago or so, an Italian journalist had the idea that Napoli should turn their transfer attention to the Premier League.
Specifically, it was said they should look towards Tottenham and Dejan Kulusevski, given the player worked well with Antonio Conte when the manager was at Spurs.
Now at Napoli, Conte is looking for additions and all kinds of names have been thrown into the mix. However, the Kulusevski suggestion brought some excitement and the claims are perhaps now somewhat ahead of reality.
Valter de Maggio is quoted by CalcioNapoli24 as saying: “Napoli have made a survey for Swedish attacker Dejan Kulusevski. Tottenham’s request is €45m. It is to be seen whether the requests will decrease in the coming weeks.”
Perhaps Napoli heard the journalist’s recommendation last week and jumped into action, or perhaps by some coincidence they were moving for the player anyway, otherwise this is just claims fuelled by excitement.
The 24-year-old has a Tottenham contract lasting until June 2028, so there’s no worry in that regard. He seems happy at the club and his best is probably ahead of him.
Even if Spurs were prepared to sell it feels unlikely their initial asking price would be €45m, so to think they’d come down from that is hopeful to say the least.
The Italian media won’t let this one go.
