Despite being on the verge of leaving Stoke City to sign for Monaco in France, Giannelli Imbula is currently still contracted to the Potters.

A loan with a view to buy offer was agreed between the two side as the Premier League side attempt to salvage what has been a rather disastrous gamble when they made the former Marseille star their record signing back in February 2016, paying over £20m to Porto for his services.

A year and a half later and the 24-year-old is set for his second stint in France with the reigning Ligue 1 champions, but before that happens, the principality club need to get rid of some deadweight.

According to RMC Sport in France, Monaco want to trim their squad a bit ahead of Imbula’s arrival, yet seem unsure as to who to offload.

The likeliest out of the lot, on paper, would probably be Youssef Ait Bennasser.

However, one man pushing for an exit is Fabinho, whom Paris Saint-Germain are very interested in, but Monaco’s reluctance to strengthen a direct rival is causing a few issues.

All in all, it seems Giannelli Imbula to the south of France is still very much a thing, and the media outlet explain the player’s entourage are hoping the deal will go through by the end of the week.

It’s just a waiting game in this one, it seems.
