Signed from Racing Club in January, Carlos Alcaraz arrived at Southampton with the aim of trying to save the Saints from relegation.
He certainly tried his best, as the Saints midfielder found the back of the net four times in 18 Premier League games and provided his teammates in two assists, but everyone ultimately failed at the task, with the club relegated to the Championship.
The player now wants out of Southampton, as has been made clear by his agent, who spoke to Si Gonfia La Rete in Italy, relayed by Napoli Piu.
Speaking to the radio show, Sebastian Lopez said: “Alcaraz is a midfielder with a strong offensive projection. This year, he played as an attacking midfielder, but also as a second striker. Like all Argentines, Naples means Maradona to him. There is a strong motivation and we hope that these hopes can concretise themselves.”
It’s clear from those quotes that Alcaraz has a desire to move to Napoli if a transfer or a loan were to land on his desk, and it will now be up to the Italians to try and sort something out with Southampton if they want the 20-year-old to play under Rudi Garcia next season.
