Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf are running an article today titled ‘Good news beckons for Blind’
For Netherlands manager Danny Blind, a ‘rapid’ transfer of Georginio Wijnaldum to Liverpool would be seen as ‘a blessing’.
De Telegraaf say Blind faced the bleak prospect of seeing five Dutch players in Newcastle’s Championship team next season.
The Dutch national team is said to need an ‘injection’ of some sort, and the newspaper doesn’t think Blind can be picking players from the Championship next season.
After Wijnaldum goes, De Telegraaf say there’s then hope Daryl Janmaat, Siem de Jong, Vurnon Anita and Tim Krul can all put themselves in the transfer spotlight.
Surely first team football at Newcastle United, in a competitive Championship, is better than sitting on the bench elsewhere. Indeed, several of the teams in England’s second tier would fair very well in the Dutch Eredivisie, which is where many of Blind’s players come from.
Newcastle United may well feel, if they kept their players, they’d have a decent chance of winning the thing.
If these really are Blind’s views then perhaps he needs to take another look.
