Here we are, three days into the transfer window, and Wojciech Szczesny is still an Arsenal player.

The Poland international, who has now returned from his two-year loan with AS Roma, has been highlighted by Juventus as the successor of Gianluigi Buffon, but with one year left on his deal, they are refusing to pay the Gunners’ €15m asking price.

Last time we left this, the general consensus was that a middle ground could be found between the two clubs at around €8, and Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday seem to think that’s getting closer.

Of course, nothing is done yet, because that would be way too easy, but it appears the Serie A champions have upped their offer since the 29th of June, with an offer of €6-7m on the table, rather than the €5m previously reported.

That’s still not enough, but things appear to be getting closer to that ‘middle ground’ figure of €8m.

Before anything does happen, however, Juventus want to get rid of Neto, their current backup, and even if terms were agreed for the transfer of the Arsenal goalkeeper, they would hold on confirming it until the Brazilian was sold to either Valencia or Watford, the two clubs currently interested.
