Last summer, Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali was regularly linked with a return to Italy.
These reports aren’t going away and Calciomercato.it now brings the latest on Juventus’ interest. Their general manager, Damien Comolli, dreams of signing the Newcastle star.
Juve are eyeing the 25-year-old, but Eddie Howe’s side aren’t planning to sell. The report states Newcastle could consider changing their stance if there’s an €80m bid.
Tonali’s contract lasts until 2028 and it’s unlikely he’d be sold even for €80m in the near future. Either way, Calciomercato.it say the figure quoted is too high for the Turin club.
To lower Tonali’s price, Juventus could offer Dušan Vlahović or Manuel Locatelli, a player ‘highly appreciated by the Magpies’.
Newcastle, after missing out on Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi last summer, have apparently set their sights on Locatelli. The report explains Comolli is willing to sacrifice the 27-year-old Italy international for €30-35m to sign Tonali.
Locatelli played over 500 minutes from nine matches this season and Juventus are open to selling him to sign Tonali. Calciomercato.it claim this shows their weakness for the former AC Milan man.
Juve are aware it’ll be a complex operation to include Locatelli as part of a deal for his compatriot. It’s not clear whether they are willing to sell him to Newcastle if Tonali isn’t part of the deal.
