Following the recent reports from the French and the English media saying Chelsea engaged in a serious pursuit to sign Neymar from Paris Saint Germain, the Brazilian press is obviously reacting to that.
With claims saying Todd Boehly already went to France to talk about the signing, the player’s home country’s media wonders if moving to the Premier League at this stage would be a good thing for him.
Interesting comments are made by Jovem Pan pundit Mauro Cezar Pereira, who points out that Neymar has many reasons to leave PSG, regardless of Chelsea being his destination or not.
“He’s worn out at PSG, he can’t be the protagonist, he’s put himself in a bad situation in the Champions League, they can be knocked out, they lost at home… And he’s been heavily criticised,” said Mauro Cezar Pereira (via Torcedores).
Regarding the transfer to Chelsea, Pereira wonders if Neymar could have a good adaptation to the club, since he’s gone past his prime and would have a difficult challenge to adapt to the Premier League.
“Chelsea have been signing everyone since Abramovich left. Now this possibility has been discussed in the European press. I think Neymar missed his moment, missed the boat. I don’t know if he will perform well in the Premier League, which is well disputed, at a higher level, I don’t know if he will have a suitable adaptation to what is expected of him.”
But he also highlighted that Neymar may have a new chance for a ‘recovery’ in his career at Chelsea, especially because the Blues have an interesting challenge in their domestic league, unlikely the scenario faced at PSG.
“It could be an opportunity for recovery, because it seems to me that at PSG, if they’re eliminated from the Champions League, it’s another season that winning the French League is just an obligation. He’s entering the final stretch of his career, he turned 31 now in February, he’s already on it.”
