Florent Ghisolfi joined Sunderland following his exit from AS Roma two months ago.
The Frenchman’s exit from the Giallorossi was chaotic and there were some difficult points in the 2024/25 season. Despite that, Ghisolfi masterminded the club’s move to take Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach in summer 2024.
The midfielder has been key for the club and praise for the Sunderland director of football has now arrived from Monaco-Matin.
A source told the outlet about the Roma star, saying: “He’s simply the king of the Roma midfield.
“He’s powerful, has a lot of energy, and is difficult to beat in a one-on-one [situation].”
It is clear that even though Ghisolfi had a mixed time in Rome, the impact of some of his work is still being felt positively.
Not just Kone, Matias Soule was also the Frenchman’s signing and the attacking midfielder has been starting to make a name for himself since the second half of last season.
These are promising signs for Sunderland, who saw Ghisolfi make multiple signings from across Europe.
The 40-year-old also brought in important players during his stints at Nice and Lens, playing a role in taking both clubs closer to European football.
