Unai Emery has told his Aston Villa squad that they should be aiming to win the Europa League this season.
Sudinfo cover comments from the Aston Villa midfielder today. He’s been speaking to Play Sports ahead of the clash with Arsenal this weekend.
Aston Villa head into that game top of the Premier League form charts, with four wins in their last five. A win over Mikel Arteta’s side would put them within three points of the Premier League leaders.
They have a good record against the Gunners since Emery took charge, beating them twice in their last five meetings. Last season saw them lose 2-0 at home but pick up a point at the Emirates in a 2-2 draw.
Tielemans is confident they can pick up another positive result this time around too.
“Of course,” he said when asked if they can pull off an upset.
“We have the quality, the intensity, the mental strength. We beat them last season, and we want to do the same this season. It’s up to us to perform well.”
Of course, the Premier League is not Aston Villa’s only focus this season. They also have an eye on the Europa League.
That’s a competition Emery is almost synonymous with after winning it four times during his spells with Sevilla. The Spanish side are the dominant team in the competition thanks to him, and he’s the competitions most successful manager.
It seems he’s determined to add to that haul too and has made it clear to his current Aston Villa squad.
“Yes. He’s someone with a wealth of experience. He’s pushing us to go for that Europa League title,” Tielemans added about Emery.
