Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has revealed Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is his role model in an interview with Europe 1 as he looks to follow in the 36-year-old’s footsteps.
Chevalier has been impressing in Ligue 1 with Lille this season, establishing himself as their number one following a summer move from Valenciennes.
So far, he’s managed eight clean sheets in 26 games in the league and only conceded 27 goals in those games so far, an impressive tally to say the least.
That’s already earned him a call up to the France U21 set up, with him making his debut in the 1-1 draw with Norway in November last year and starting in the defeat to England last month.
The future is currently looking bright for the 21-year-old, with a report earlier this year even stating that Fulham and Newcastle are monitoring his performances.
Another Premier League club might want to add their name to that list, though, with the player revealing his admiration for Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
“When I was eight, nine or ten years old, when I started in goal, he was starting to break through at Nice and then at Olympique Lyonnais. He’s my model,” he told Europe 1.
Now, we’re not suggesting that is in any way an admission he wants to join Tottenham now or in future, but it’s certainly interesting.
It’s become abundantly clear that Spurs needs to find a replacement for Lloris this summer and, rather than spending big on an established star, particularly with a need to spend elsewhere, wouldn’t it make sense to focus on the future with Chevalier?
He’s shown he’s one to keep an eye on this season and could be an ideal candidate to replace Lloris, certainly after this admission of the veteran being his role model.
