Flamengo’s pursuit for Chelsea winger Robert Kenedy has now been confirmed by the Brazilian club.

When director Bruno Spindel was interviewed by Paparazzo Rubro Negro on Youtube last night, he admitted that the Rio de Janeiro side are in touch with the Blues in order to try and land the 25-year-old.

“Kenedy is a very interesting athlete. Flamengo are talking. It’s also very difficult. He’s from Chelsea, he’s an interesting player who’s had a great season,” said Spindel (via UOL).

“Now it’s a very difficult negotiation, an athlete who was transferred for a very high fee to Chelsea. We’d like to have him, but again, even because of the financial situation, the value of the euro, everything that happened, we see it as a difficult situation.”

It’s been recently reported by the Brazilian media that Kenedy knows he’s not in Chelsea’s plans for the season, and even though his first intention was to stay in Europe, he’s now given the green light for a move to Flamengo.

Since joining the Blues on a €8m deal from Fluminense in 2015, he has only been able to make 27 appearances for the club, as he’s spent most time on loan spells at Watford, Newcastle United, Getafe and Granada.

However, with Flamengo now complaining about financial issues, it would be no surprise to see Kenedy leaving Stamford Bridge on another loan deal rather than return to Brazil.

The winger has a contract with Chelsea running until 2024.
