With Marseille starting very well their new season under Jorge Sampaoli, there’s been a lot of praise going around.

Two players who have found themselves at the centre of it all are the two Arsenal loanees, Mattéo Guendouzi and William Saliba.

Already lauded for his performance against Lokomotiv Moscow, the latter of the two didn’t have much to do against Rennes in his side’s 2-0 win, but that didn’t stop Sampaoli from singling him out ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Angers.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the manager was asked about the Arsenal defender, whom he praised greatly.

He said, relayed by RMC Sport: “He’s a top player at his position. We were lucky to get him on loan, it wasn’t simple. He’s great at marking, but good bringing the ball out too. He’s a future great of French football, he’s very good at starting plays.

“He’s adapted to a three at the back well, and his performances are linked to the team’s, which likes to play from the back”.

Unlike Guendouzi’s, Saliba’s loan from Arsenal means he will return to the Emirates come the end of the season regardless of how well he plays for Marseille this season.

However, if Mikel Arteta is waiting for him when he returns, who knows what the Spaniard will do, as he’s refused to include him in his plans for the second year running despite many feeling the youngster is more than ready to have a good impact with the Gunners.
