The end of Thiago Silva’s time playing at the top level may have been called for some time now, but the Chelsea defender continues to prove he’s up for the challenge.
The centre-back hasn’t been called up by Brazil since the end of the 2022 World Cup, with managers Ramon Menezes and Fernando Diniz ignoring him for the whole of 2023.
Now as national team’s new manager Dorival Junior was today presented, ESPN Brasil bring some of his quotes on the Chelsea player.
The coach explained he’s not only worried about renewing Brazil’s squad, and in case Thiago Silva proves to be at a good level, he’ll be called up by the national team.
“We have to be balanced, aware and above all look for the best. I’m going to make mistakes, and if I don’t call up one or the other I’ll imagine it’s ideal, but I’ll try to bring in those who are in the best condition. The main thing is that they adapt quickly”
Thiago Silva has 113 caps for Brazil, but is part of an unsuccessful generation which only won one Confederations Cup and one Copa America, and that’s why he sees some resistance from fans and press.
The Chelsea defender turns 40 in September, and may now be included in the squad which will be prepared to play the Copa America this year, as well as the World Cup qualifiers.
