Crysencio Summerville is nearing a move to AS Roma. Backing for the attacker has come from Andrea Radrizzani, who signed him for Leeds United.
The Italian side have made progress regarding a move for the Dutchman. They have had two bids rejected and Sport Witness have covered the confidence in the Italian press that a third offer will be enough for West Ham.
The Hammers’ valuation stands at around €50m, with the player having grown significantly since he joined from Leeds United in 2024.
Summerville spent four years at Elland Road, where Radrizzani saw him up close. The Italian has now given his opinion about Roma’s deal for him.
Ex-owner backs Summerville
The former Leeds United owner spoke to ReteSport and he made his admiration for the player clear.
He provided details into his time at Elland Road, revealing Summerville was always ambitious and made a positive impact on him.
Radrizzani said – via SiamoLaRoma: “I know Summerville very well. I’ve always had a close, friendly relationship with him. He’s a fantastic guy, level-headed and very focused.”
Further, Radrizzani disclosed that the winger had asked to leave Leeds United quite early.
“He came to us at a very young age from Feyenoord for around €1.5m. At first, he struggled a bit, as often happens with young players, adapting to English football. I remember that in his first year, he asked to be sold because he wasn’t getting much playing time.
“I convinced him to stay with the second team and promised him a different solution if he didn’t get much playing time. In November, he started against Liverpool and scored goals. Under Bielsa, he had the opportunity to develop quickly.”
The Italian clarified that Gian Piero Gasperini’s system suits Summerville quite a bit.
“He had a physical problem in his first year at West Ham, but upon his return, he was one of the few players to survive a very difficult season. He tried to save the team, along with two or three other players. He can have a significant impact in Gasperini’s transitions.
“I think he’s perfect for the style of football advocated by the Giallorossi coach, whom I admire greatly because he’s combined a strong work methodology with very important results against Atalanta and Roma.”
West Ham should demand more
Radrizzani also expressed his belief that a player of Summerville’s calibre could be worth more than €50m.
“I think Summerville is worth €50m, but generally speaking, if you buy in the Premier League, the values are the same. If he’d had a better season, he’d be valued at €70-€80m.”
