Carles Gil was supposed to leave Aston Villa permanently this summer, but has instead moved to Deportivo La Coruna again on loan. It’ll be another loan spell for the Spaniard and his injury irritations last season will have helped prevent a permanent switch.
Gil took a while to get going last season at Depor, but showed good flashes once he got into his stride. Unfortunately that stride was broken more than once by a groin issue.
Whilst there was interest in a permanent transfer over the summer, no clubs wanted to part with Aston Villa’s asking price, and worries over fitness won’t have helped that.
Spanish clubs being hesitant have been given some back up already, with Marca saying Gil is unlikely to play in Depor’s first league game. It’s ‘practically impossible’ for the Aston Villa owned player to face Real Madrid, say Marca, with his groin problem flaring up again.
Deportivo La Coruna are trying to avoid Gil having an operation, so the player will instead train alone until he’s considered fit to train with his teammates, and then take to the pitch and actually play.
Given how long the groin issues have been around, it’s optimistic to say the least that Depor believe some individual training can see them disappear.
The last thing Aston Villa want is for Gil to have a season interrupted by injury, and a groin situation perhaps made worse by a reluctance to accept an operation.
