On January 22nd, Celtic completed the signing of Tomáš Čvančara on loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach. Martin O’Neill wanted more players at his disposal at Celtic Park for the second half of the season.
Towards the end of the window, Celtic made an attempt to sign Frosinone Calcio’s Farès Ghedjemis. However, the Serie B side refused to let the forward join the Bhoys.
On deadline day, Celtic strengthened their attack by signing Junior Adamu and Joël Mvuka on loan from SC Freiburg and FC Lorient respectively.
Ouest-France cover Mvuka’s late move to Celtic Park. He was the only player to leave the French club in the recently concluded window.
The Ligue 1 side face Paris FC in the French Cup later today. Their manager, Olivier Pantaloni, spoke at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
Ouest-France have relayed his comments on the new Celtic signing. Lorient’s decision to let the 23-year-old join O’Neill’s side hasn’t pleased Pantaloni.
The winger played 556 minutes from 15 Ligue 1 matches this season and it includes only five starts. The limited role under Pantaloni didn’t please Mvuka.
Player took big Celtic opportunity
According to the coach, the player was still comfortable at Lorient, and he isn’t happy to see him join Celtic. Pantaloni is also disappointed with Lorient for not signing Mvuka’s replacement.
“Now, we have Panos Katseris in that position who can come back. There’s not much more to say about that. Joël certainly wanted more playing time. Ideally, I would have liked to keep everyone because the group has a good atmosphere. Even though Joël didn’t get much playing time, we could tell he was comfortable with it,” he said.
The Lorient boss, however, understands why the 23-year-old Norwegian decided to join Celtic.
“He had the opportunity to join a big club that could change his career. You have to take everything into account,” Pantaloni explained.
