Comments coming from inside Santos are helping to frame Souza as a player ready for Tottenham and an immediate step to Europe, rather than a profile that still needs time.

That internal assessment adds context to why Tottenham are acting now, despite the usual caution around January deals.

The message was delivered publicly by Santos academy coordinator Rodrigão, whose evaluation carries weight inside the club. Instead of presenting 19-year-old Souza as a future project, he described a defender who is ready for European football and seized his opportunities quickly.

Recalling Souza’s breakthrough, Rodrigão said: “He is ready. Back in 2024, when I arrived at the club, Souza was not even a starter at a youth tournament. Another player was playing at left-back, and Souza came in the third game. Then he never left the team. He is a player who is ready and already has experience with the first team.”

That emphasis on timing matters. The view from Santos is that Souza has already absorbed the demands of senior football, rather than still growing into them. Rodrigão reinforced that point after following the defender closely throughout the 2025 season:

“In my opinion, based on what I saw from Souza with the first team during the 2025 season, I believe he is ready”, he said.

From a Premier League perspective, such clarity helps explain the urgency. January signings usually require confidence in immediate adaptation. A firm internal verdict like this reduces uncertainty and strengthens the case for action now.

For Tottenham, the assessment from Brazil aligns with the idea that Souza arrives shaped by minutes, pressure and responsibility, not as a player to wait on.
