Brighton signed Diego Coppola from Hellas Verona earlier this month after beating competition from Italian clubs such as Juventus and Lazio.

The defender had impressed during the 2024/25 season for the Gialloblu, establishing himself as one of the best young talents in Serie A.

It remains to be seen whether the centre-back replicates his impressive performances at Brighton but backing has arrived from Tony Seric, who is a key intermediary in the Italian market.

He spoke to L’Arena about multiple transfers and was asked specifically about Coppola’s move to the Seagulls and whether Hellas Verona earned the right amount from the sale.

The intermediary said: “Yes, considering that he comes from the youth sector and therefore cost nothing. He will do well in the Premier, [Juventus manager Igor] Tudor liked him a lot.”

Seric further said that Coppola should be seen as an investment for the future by Brighton, cooling expectations on the Italian.

“For Brighton too, he is an investment. For many clubs, selling is equivalent to living. The rule does not only apply to Hellas.”

Fabian Hurzeler’s side have paid close to €12m for the 21-year-old and considering how he has already become a part of the Italian national side, Coppola’s value is almost certain to rise.

The defender has huge potential, and his growing leadership skills were evident last season. It should be only a matter of time before he finds his feet at Brighton and starts playing regularly.
