Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães is unhappy that the Premier League side didn’t live up to expectations this season.
During the 2024/25 season, Newcastle United finished fifth and won the EFL Cup, which ended their trophy drought of over six decades.
The Magpies were in the Champions League this season and Barcelona knocked them out in round of 16.
They struggled in the league, finishing 12th, 11 points behind fifth placed Liverpool. Eddie Howe’s failed to qualify for Europe next season, which wouldn’t have been expected.
Guimarães finished the season with nine goals and eight assists in 3,322 minutes from 41 matches. He’s now with the Brazil national team preparing for the World Cup.
Newcastle United star partly blames injuries

Before going into these topics, the newspaper wanted to discuss Newcastle United’s season with Bruno Guimarães.
AS asked the midfielder what lessons he has learned from the Magpies difficult season.
“It’s been a season where we haven’t reached our full potential, and that will undoubtedly serve as a lesson for the future. We haven’t been able to maintain consistency, and that’s had a significant impact,” he said.
Alexander Isak was the English club’s top scorer last season with 27 goals and six assists.
Last summer, he joined Liverpool for a British record fee, after forcing his way out of St. James’ Park.
The newspaper specifically asked the former Lyon man whether Isak’s exit had a big impact on Newcastle United’s project.
Responding to that, Guimarães explained: “I see the process as a whole. I don’t think any single incident changed our course. We lacked a run of good performances, consistency in the starting eleven, we suffered some injuries, and all of that played a part.”
Focus now on World Cup
Earlier this week, the South American said he believes he has now reached the Newcastle United level with Brazil.
The midfielder also insisted that Seleção, under Carlo Ancelotti’s orders, are well prepared for the World Cup.
Brazil start their campaign against Morocco on June 13th.
