Tottenham Hotspur are getting closer towards agreeing a deal for Barcelona target Lucas Bergvall.

The La Liga side have been chasing the Djurgårdens IF youngster for a while, but Spurs are set to beat them for his signing.

Barca president Joan Laporta has been speaking to RAC1, where he was asked about the battle with Spurs for the 18-year-old’s signature, and his comments are relayed by Iglesia en Directo.

Despite various claims elsewhere stating that the midfielder will travel to London today for a medical with Tottenham, the outlet states the La Liga side’s official hasn’t given up yet on this operation.

Laporta has confirmed that Barcelona sporting director Deco has long been an admirer of the Sweden international, but insisted that his side won’t match the north London club’s proposal to acquire his signature.

“He’s a great player, whom Deco has followed for a long time. As far as I know, he hasn’t signed anything with anyone yet,” he said.

“We made an offer, we had everything agreed with him and the club. Tottenham have made him an offer with much more money. Our proposal is to play in the reserve team, working with the dynamics of the first team, but we are not going to make Tottenham’s financial offer.”

If Barca aren’t going to match Tottenham’s offer, it’s unlikely for them to hijack their deal for Bergvall.

Earlier today, Sport suggested Tottenham have offered better commission to the agent and that might have persuaded them to convince the teenager to pick Ange Postecoglou’s side over Barca.
