Everton were surprisingly linked with Edin Dzeko over the weekend, with the Italian media covering the striker’s potential move this month.

Dzeko is AS Roma captain but has fallen out with manager Paulo Fonseca. The 34-year-old was dropped from the club’s squad to face Spezia at the weekend, and despite the official reason being an injury, the Italian media were certain it was because of an argument between the pair.

The situation is so bad that it could now be a case of one of the men having to leave Roma in the not too distant future.

Il Messaggero back up Everton interest, yet make it clear there’s been no concrete moves from the Toffees yet. However, the situation is complicated, with it being pointed out that negotiating a move for Dzeko before the window ends is going to be very difficult.

The Italian newspaper states: ‘The more hours pass, the more we realise that finding accommodation for Edin in less than a week is more complicated than climbing Everest without ropes and bare hands.’

Everton would surely only make a move if Cek Tosun leaves Goodison Park in the coming days. If he does, it’d be no surprise if Carlo Ancelotti looks to Italy for a short-term replacement.
