Brighton & Hove Albion’s Casper Nilsson has told Fotbollskanalen that he’s unsure of his future at The Amex beyond this season.

The 21-year-old left Malmö FF to join Brighton’s academy in 2020 and has represented the Seagulls at U18 and U21 level.

Brighton haven’t promoted the right-back to their first team so far and sent him on loan to Scottish side Partick Thistle in the summer window.

The defender made four appearances for the Scottish club before suffering an injury. He’s been speaking to the Swedish outlet on various topics, including his big dream and goal for the future.

Nilsson has just over six months left on his deal at the Premier League side and isn’t clear as to where his future lies beyond this season.

When Fotbollskanalen asked the Sweden U21 international whether he’ll sign a new deal at Brighton or joining another club, he said: “I have to take it as it comes. It’s hard to say now.”

The Brighton youngster was immediately asked what’s best for him. When responding to this, the fullback stated he wants to be at a place where he can enjoy regular first team football.

“The best thing would be to break into a good league, play week in, week out and then take the next step,” Nilsson explained.

It’s difficult, as a youth player, to break into a Premier League team, but we’ll see what happens in the summer. I don’t want to speculate too much, as I don’t want to have too high expectations, but you can always dream of course.”

The Brighton player hasn’t closed the door on returning to Sweden at some point in his career to fulfil his dream.

“It’s hard to say, but it has definitely always been a dream to play in Malmö’s first team at some point,” he added.

“I’m definitely open to the Allsvenskan, but I would prefer to be out in Europe a little longer. At the same time, it can go quickly with good seasons in the Allsvenskan and then out in Europe again. I’m open to most things.”
